The first thing to remember is that earning money online is not easy and very few people actually earn their living online. you need to be prepared to do a lot of research and planning. If you have any passions, then explore those area's first, as you will be more likely to succeed if you have an in depth knowledge on what you are selling or writing about.

Once you have selected your area or niche you can get down to some in depth research using Google and Alexa to find out what people are searching for and what kind of traffic you can expect. You need to examine keywords that are popular and one of the tools you can use is the Google keyword tool, but remember that this is biased towards pay per click (PPC) advertising and if you are looking to dominate organic search results one tip I have ,is to avoid choosing any keyword phrase that does not have paid advertising on the right hand side, as you might dominate this keyword but get no traffic.

Your research may take weeks but it will form the bedrock of your business so don't be tempted to rush it. Once you have your keywords it time to set up a site and to be honest it is easier to use a blog rather than a traditional site as it is more dynamic which will result in better indexing. Remember when choosing a both a domain name and title think keywords. You also need to add relevant metatags for keywords,description,Google,Alexa, Bing etc. Once your site is live then you need to add keyword specific content on a daily basis and also start building backlinks by posting to classified ad sites and build standalone webpages.

Hypertext Markup language is a code used to tag text files to achieve font,colour, graphic and hyperlink effects on websites and blogs. It is easy to learn and can enhance marketing your business when used in the right way you do not need any special tools , however an editor such as EditPlus can ensure you produce clean code.

Many people make a mistake with HTML by trying to produce pages in WordPress but this produces a lot of redundant code, others try try to use too many features and colours. when using HTML for marketing your business you need to keep it plain and simple. there are half a dozen or so simple codes;
< b> < /b> around a word or phrase for Bold
< i> < /i> around a word or phrase for Italic
< u>< /u> around a word or phrase for Underline
< p> To start a new Paragraph

When using the codes above omit the leading spaces. The above HTML codes are quite sufficient to create good looking blog posts and emails.

When it comes to websites you may need to use a few more commands say to insert the odd graphic

note the alt tag is a description shown if image is not displayed and should used to pass a keyword about the picture to search engine spiders.

Again omit the leading spaces in front of a and img for code to work.

I have now completed my new site Training videos and have placed three of my videos there which can help people to market their business on the Internet. Over the coming weeks and months I will be adding more training videos and this site will become the centre for my online mentoring.

The first video is about setting up a Wordpress blog on Veretekk hosting, going through the stages of setting up a new subdomain and transferring the program zip file, creating a database for the blog content and changing the sample configuration to launch you blog

The two other emails are related to providing good content to market your business, one shows how not to email, and the other show you how to edit Veretekk autoresponder messages to improve subscriber retention.

Video training Video is an important area for marketing you business which is often overlooked, they say a picture paints a thousand words, but video ands sound as well. Depending on your business, you video maybe about products or services or some form of training.

Videos can be uploaded to Youtube or added to blogs and websites, the choice is yours, however Youtube in common with other free services can shut down your video without notice, so it is better to host your own videos.

To make videos for use in marketing your business you will need some form of software and a popular solution is to use Camtasia, however I have been testing a number of free options and have settled on an open source system CamStudio, the only drawback being it does not produce flv flash, but you can combine it with a free video flash converter from DVDVideosoft and it provides excellent results.

Once you have made a video for marketing your business it is a simple matter to add it to your website using the code created from the flash converter or else you can upload the flash video to Youtube.

I have published a number of marketing your business video's already on Youtube and on my own website and will soon be creating a new video site.

Email marketing used to be a good way to market your business, but now due to the influx of scammers and spammers its is largely ineffective, unless first contact is made my some others means.

Many people wonder why it is that when they use an email blaster they get no response and the answer actually often lies in the message they are sending out, if all you are sending is an advert for your latest get rich quick scheme, the first stumbling block is the various spam traps which will be searching for spam content.

The best emails are those sent out in plain text but people often insist in adding banners and photos, which to be honest and no place in emails, especially with the growing trend of small mobile devices, which cannot display them and often cost the user money due to data fees.

Yes people want information, which may answer questions or expand on the use of your product or service but they do not want to be pressurised to buy, with special gimmicks.

Do not keep loading the same boring business marketing message in your email its big turn off.

So how do you run a successful marketing campaign for your business, well the first thing to do is to start building a rapport with the client and discover what it is that they want that you can provide. The best way to do this is some form of contact form, which needs to include a telephone contact number.

The next step is to call them and have a conversation with them about them, not about your business, take in what they have to say and then you can email them, even adding them as a subscriber to a suitable autoresponder. If they like what you send them they will become a subscriber for life. If not move on.

How many different tools do you use on a regular basis to market you business, I would imagine quite a few, covering blogs, email, video, social marketing sites such as facebook and twitter, press releases and webinars.

Now most people look for the cheapest option and quite often will find free tools to use, but to be honest this strategy can backfire on you, blogs on Blogger.com and Wordpress.com can be shutdown without notice, so you need to ensure that your blogs and websites are set up on your own hosting.
