SEO Techniques are used to raise the profile of a website or blog in natural search engine results as opposed to PPC advertising where the highest bidder get tops exposure.

There is nothing mystical about SEO, it is a matter of plain common sense, although many so called gurus will attempt to confuse the issue talking about Google Panda updates and black hat methods of trying to beat the Google algorithms.

SEO start with the basics of finding a niche market and researching the relevant keywords. Then you purchase a domain containing your main keyword.

The next stage is important you need to build a website or blog paying attention to title, metatags and content. Content is king and you will need to provide fresh content on a daily basis.

Once you have your website complete, submit it to Google and then start building backlinks. Your back links need to come from sites which have contents relevant to your keywords and the links need to contain your main keywords.

The method I use is to build 500 one page web sites and place 1,000 classified adverts each containing more information about my chosen niche. now once the initial target is reached, I actually continue adding new web sites and ads on a daily basis.

You also need to write Press releases whenever to have something to share about your business.

You can build further links by creating blogs all leading back to your main site or blog, overtime you will see your Alexa ranking reduce and your Google search results improve.

To be honest I do not recommend blog commenting except where the blog is about your niche and remember when you are posting comments in blogs on forums you need to supply good content. Far too many people tend to post frivolous comments just to promote their signature link, this is BAD practice and will often get you banned as a spammer.

Keyword Selection

How much time do you spend research keywords to market your business, a few seconds, minutes, hours or weeks, there is no real answer but the estimated research time for Keyword Selection is generally between 3 to 20 hours or if you are a novice up to 40 hours. The more time spent on research the better your chances of success. On occasions I have spent up to a month analysing data.

When you first come up with a keyword idea enter it into a Google search box and look to see how many pay per click (PPC) adverts are on the results page, the more the better, if there are none I suggest you choose another keyword.

Next look at the top results and using Alexa examine the traffic and links, the lower the Alexa ranking the better. You also need to look at the web site design to check on the metatag information to discover what keywords are being targeted, because they will be your competitors in marketing your business.

When you are starting out you are of course keen for success but sometimes you may be better to start with a long tailed keyword, which contains your main keyword, if you use the Google Keyword tool this will help select alternative keywords.

Selecting your keyword is the first stage of marketing your business, next you will need to build a web site, blog or landing page, remembering, that you need to include your main keyword in the domain name, title and metatags.

One of the most important methods to improve your search engine results is to build backlinks now many people think that this just involves making a few comments on blogs and in forums and this is entirely wrong and will often get you banned. So what are the alternatives well you could buy links but I would not recommend this as what is the point of having links on a website that has absolutely nothing to do with the content of your own site.

The best alternative in my opinion is to build your own links in high traffic sites such as Freepage and 1-family classifieds which have Alexa rankings of 100,000 and 150,000 respectively and are frequently visited by search engine robots.

So what content do you put on these sites, well for one you do not advertise even on 1 Family classifieds, you provide information or spider food for robots. Butch Hamilton is a master of this technique and I would even go as far as suggesting you to subscribe to one of his feeds to learn for yourself.

You need to get into a routine of writing posts in both of these systems on a daily basis and over time you will build massive backlinks. Now some people have writers block and generally this is because they are trying to promote something they know nothing about. Knowledge is king you need to study and learn about your business in order to be successful, as you learn then you can write about it, its a two way process.
